i think the reason so many people think tim isnt important to the batfamily is because so many people know him not from the comics but from other adaptations. a lot of media outside the comics dont include what made tim tim in the first place. like him being a nepo baby nightwing fanboy that forces himself into batmans life, getting him out of his depressive slump and reminding him that batman needs a robin. if it werent for him like half the batfam wouldnt be in the batfam and bruce wouldnt hav taken in any new proteges after jason. hes an important aspect of bruces character and also damian! damian in the dcamu is based of morrisons damian yet he feels so different bc he doesnt have a tim to bounce off of. none of this is in any of his adaptations that i know of its either completely gone or implied if he isnt a major character tim in btas is basically jason todd. havnt seen the titans show but apparently tim in that show is basically duke in terms of backstory feel free to fact check me on that i dont wanna spread misinfo but i also really dont wanna watch titans. and then tim is barely in yjtv he doesnt really contribute anything to the show. the closet tim there is to really understanding what his purpose was in the comics is the arkham games but again all his tim traits r mostly just implied bc hes really underutilized in those games im all for changing things up when adapting characters i just think its an unfortunate side effect that what the casual batman fan thinks of when they think of tim is so different from what the character was originally
